SafeNet acquire DRM software reseller DMD Secure
MANHASSET, N.Y. — Information security provider SafeNet Inc. announced
Friday (March 25) it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the
stock of DMDsecure.com B.V., a supplier of carrier grade server Digital
Rights Management (DRM) software for solution providers and software
vendors.
Under the agreement, SafeNet (Belcamp, Md.) will pay 7.5 million Euro
($9.7 million) to be complemented by an earn out schedule. The
transaction is expected to be neutral to earnings in 2005.
With current customers such as Arcor, British Telecom and Deutsche
Telecom, DMDsecure (Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a leading technology
provider of server DRM components for the PC, mobile and digital home
domains. The company is active in driving DRM standards and contributes
to the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). the Digital Video Broadcasting Forum
(DVB), the MPEG standards organization, and other industry
organizations.
The DMDsecure team will operate as part of the rights management
business unit, reporting to Prakash Panjwani. Rist Brouwer, the current
chief executive of DMDsecure, will lead strategic business development
activities for SafeNet in the broader market of content protection.
